Wie schön: Kristina Shamgunova folgt erneut einer Einladung von Pablo Held! Wobei man ahnt, dass sich dieses Mal eine gänzlich andere, neue Klangtextur ergeben wird. Vor eineinhalb Jahren tauchte die vorzügliche Saxofonistin aus Mannheim tiefenentspannt und doch souverän pointierend in Kompositionen von Thelonious-Monk ein (wovon auch das hintergründige, fast verschmitzte Stück Sweet and Lovely auf Pablo Helds Meet-me-at-the-LOFT-Album zeugt). Jetzt begegnet sie Mitspielern, mit denen sich weitere, spielerisch nicht weniger spannende Inspirationsquellen anzapfen lassen.

Bassist Nico Klöffer kommt aus Saarbrücken, ist aber schon seit längerem in Köln verwurzelt, wo er u.a. mit Simon Below und Leif Berger den Jazz eindrucksvoll neutönen ließ. Zusammen mit Kristina Shamgunova spielte er zudem die melancholische Musik in Philip Weyands Quartett Myosotis. Dessen Anklänge an feinen Nordic Jazz dürften vor allem Schlagzeuger Jakob Høyer gefallen, der dänischen Indie-Rock mit den Raveonettes spielte, bevor er u.a. im Jakob Bro Trio (bei Konzerten mit Tom Harrell) seine brillanten Filigran-Qualitäten bewies. Wie immer dadurch nun die musikalischen Weichen auch gestellt werden: Dank der verlässlich souveränen Saitenführung Tobias Hoffmanns wird es stets die nötige Erdung für eine Musik geben, mit der Pablo Held einmal mehr die unendliche Welt der Harmonien auslotet.

How nice: Kristina Shamgunova once again accepts an invitation from Pablo Held! One suspects that this time a completely different, new sound texture will result. A year and a half ago, the exquisite saxophonist from Mannheim immersed herself in compositions by Thelonious-Monk in a deeply relaxed yet confidently pointed manner (to which the enigmatic, almost mischievous piece Sweet and Lovely on Pablo Held’s Meet-me-at-the-LOFT album also bears witness). Now she meets fellow players with whom further, playfully no less exciting sources of inspiration can be tapped.

Bassist Nico Klöffer comes from Saarbrücken, but has been rooted in Cologne for a long time, where he impressively neutönen jazz with Simon Below and Leif Berger, among others. Together with Kristina Shamgunova he also played the melancholic music in Philip Weyand’s quartet Myosotis. The latter’s echoes of fine Nordic jazz should appeal above all to drummer Jakob Høyer, who played Danish indie rock with the Raveonettes before proving his brilliant filigree qualities in the Jakob Bro Trio (in concerts with Tom Harrell), among others. How always thereby now the musical course is also set: Thanks to Tobias Hoffmann’s reliably sovereign string playing, there will always be the necessary grounding for a music with which Pablo Held once again explores the infinite world of harmonies.
